Job Description:

The Criminal Records Assistance Project Attorney will increase the capacity of communities throughout Minnesota to assist individuals with criminal records, especially individuals of limited means, in seeking an expungement and learning more about related criminal records resources, such as where to seek help with employment and housing services. This will result in increased access to employment and housing for ex-offenders, resulting in safer, economically stronger, and more just communities throughout the State.

Activities:
1. Develop a thorough understanding of expungement law and criminal records issues.
2. Convene an advisory group of practitioners.
3. Work with other organizations in developing expungement forms.
4. Develop and provide expungement training for attorneys.
5. Act as a resource for pro-bono attorneys.
6. Develop and provide educational resources for individuals with criminal records.
7. Advocate for the development of more pro-bono expungement attorneys.
8. Assist with the development of web-based resources.
9. Participate as a member of the Advocacy team and Council organization.
10. Represent the values of the agency in carrying out the work of the position.

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications:

ï‚§ J.D. is required.
ï‚§ Demonstrated concern for the needs and rights of underrepresented populations.
ï‚§ Ability to recruit, organize and establish effective relationships with all stakeholders.
ï‚§ Strong written and verbal communication skills.
ï‚§ Ability to be self-motivated, take initiative and work with minimal supervision.
ï‚§ Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and areas of responsibility, to bring assigned tasks or projects to closure on deadline, and to give attention to details.
ï‚§ Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook and Internet.

VISTA Volunteers receive a small living stipend and other benefits.
